Dolph Lundgren’s Rumored Role in MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Reboot Revealed

by Mily Dunbar

The upcoming live-action Masters of the Universe reboot has already generated a lot of excitement as fans wait to see Eternia return to the big screen. Now a new rumor may have revealed how the original He-Man himself, Dolph Lundgren, will appear in the film.

For months there have been hints that Lundgren, who played Prince Adam in the 1987 cult classic, would pop up in Travis Knight’s new take on the franchise. The actor has teased his involvement more than once, making it clear that he filmed something for the project.

Earlier this year, speculation suggested Lundgren might appear briefly as King Grayskull. That theory gained traction when a statue spotted at Toy Fair showed a king holding the same sword that Lundgren’s He-Man wielded in the original film.

Now a new report from He-Mania.com claims to know the real nature of his cameo.

According to the site’s source, Lundgren’s appearance takes place on Earth rather than Eternia, and it sounds like a playful nod to his legacy with the franchise.

"Dolph Lundgren's role takes place on Earth, not on Eternia, at a fitness gym, the same gym that Adam works out in," an anonymous source told the site. "In front of a studio mirror, Dolph gives Adam some life advice and at the end of their conversation, Dolph parts ways with a 'Good Journey.'"

It may not be the grand fantasy cameo some fans imagined, but it does feel like a fun passing-of-the-torch moment between generations of He-Man. A quick scene like that keeps the focus on the new story while still honoring the original star.

That new hero will be played by Nicholas Galitzine, who steps into the role of Prince Adam in Knight’s reboot. The director recently explained that the search for the right actor wasn’t simply about finding someone who looked like the iconic warrior.

"I wasn’t looking for a body. I was looking for a soul. I needed someone who had the spirit of this character, and could be funny and charming and heartbreaking and also plausibly a big action hero. Because there’s a duality there: Adam essentially represents empathy, He-Man represents strength."

The story follows Adam as he reconnects with his destiny after years away from his home world. After being separated for 15 years, the Sword of Power leads him back to Eternia, where he discovers the planet under the rule of Skeletor.

To save his family and the kingdom, Adam joins forces with Teela and Duncan, embracing the power that transforms him into He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe.

Masters of the Universe also stars Camila Mendes, Idris Elba, Jared Leto, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Charlotte Riley, and Kristen Wiig.

The film was written by Chris Butler, Aaron Nee, Adam Nee, and Dave Callaham, with Knight directing.

Fans won’t have to wait too long to see how it all comes together. Masters of the Universe is set to hit theaters on June 5.
