Dominic Cooper Replacing Henry Cavill in STRATTON
Dominic Cooper has made waves on the small screen reprising his role as Howard Stark on Agent Carter and snagging the lead role in Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's Preacher adaptation for AMC, but now the actor has booked another lead role in a potential film franchise starter. Variety reports that Cooper is replacing Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Henry Cavill in an action thriller called Stratton.
Cavill bailed on the movie about six weeks ago, only five days before shooting was supposed to start. That seems like sort of a jerk move, but if you know something isn't going to work out and your heart's not in it, I suppose it's best not to waste anyone's time. He cited "creative differences" over the script as his reason for leaving.
Cavill's departure now puts director Simon West in a bit of an awkward position, since he previously said, "I can't imagine a better actor to take on this role" when speaking about the Man of Steel star. Hopefully Cooper will be able to step in and not miss a beat.
The story is an adaptation of "the first of a series of eight novels by Duncan Falconer following a Special Boat Service operative tracking down an international terrorist cell through Central Asia, mainland Europe and London."
