DON'T TELL MOM THE BABYSITTER'S DEAD Remake Will Be Rated-R
The classic 1991 dark comedy Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead is getting a remake, and when it was first announced it was described as being a “diverse remake” of the ’90s movie and that it would be a “present-day retelling centered on a Black family.”
The last we heard, Bille Woodruff (Beauty Shop, Yellowjackets) was attached to direct the film from a script written by Chuck Hayward (Dear White People, WandaVision). It was also reported that the new film will be “as funny and outrageous as the original but also smart and connected to the world today.”
In the most recent update on the remake, an official listing from the MPA has revealed that the upcoming film is going to be rated R. The original movie was rated PG-13, but this new movie has received its “R” rating for “teen drug use, language, and some sexual references.”
The film also has a distributor with Iconic Releasing, but it doesn’t have a release date yet. Tyra Banks (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Coyote Ugly, America’s Next Top Model, Dancing With the Stars) was cast in the film and she will play the boss character Rose, a fashion executive at General Apparel West, who takes a chance on the oldest sister, by hiring her as an executive assistant.
The original 1991 movie followed four siblings whose mom went on an international vacation, leaving them with a very strict and very elderly babysitter, despite the oldest sister having just graduated from high school. But then the babysitter dies, and the kids have to figure out what to do to survive, and not tell mom the babysitter’s dead.
It’ll be interesting to see how this remake turn out.
