Doug Liman Set To Direct New Film Adaptation of THE SAINT Starring Regé-Jean Page

Paramount Pictures is moving forward with its new feature film adaptation of The Saint with Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow, The Bourne Identity) set to direct and Regé-Jean Page (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves) set to star.

The Saint is a Robin Hood-esque criminal and thief for hire named Simon Templar, who goes on a globetrotting adventure. It’s based in part on Leslie Charteris’ 1920s book series and subsequent 1960s UK TV series starring Roger Moore. The studio is hoping to turn this into a successful long-running franchise.

It’s explained that this new film will be “a completely new take that reimagines the character and world around him.”

Paramount has been working on this project for years and at one point Dexter Fletcher, the director behind Rocketman, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Eddie The Eagle was attached with Chris Pine starring.

Lorenzo DiBonaventura and Brad Krevoy will produce, with the late Robert Evans also credited as a producer. Liman will next be teaming up with Matt Damon on the Apple Studios film project The Instigators. He seems like a solid choice to take on this franchise. We’ll just have to see if it actually ends up connecting with audiences.
