DREDD Producer Adi Shankar Wants to Make a Hard R MEGA MAN Film
Producer Adi Shankar has been in the news a lot lately. The Dredd and Lone Survivor producer is currently developing a dark hardcore animated adaptation of the classic video game Castlevania for Netflix. He's also said to be in talks to direct Sony Pictures' upcoming Venom movie.
During an interview with WWG, Shankar talked about his passion for video games saying:
“Yes, I’m a massive gamer and at some point, I’m going to start live streaming myself wrecking fools online. If I’m not a fan of something and I don’t organically understand what is cool about it, then I’m simply not going to get involved. Even though I have one foot in the door in Hollywood, I’m not trying to rape and pillage culture for profit. I’m trying to take the things I loved as a kid and bring them to life in an interesting way.”
It's at this point that he brings up Mega Man as a video game property that he would like to adapt into a live-action film, and it will be unlike any Mega Man project that we've seen before. Shankar says:
“I’d love to do a hard-R Mega Man."
He doesn't get into any details but we can all imagine what a movie like that might be like, and it could be pretty awesome if properly done. We've previously seen a cool gritty fan film reboot, but that's not close to anything to what a hardcore R-rated version of the property would be like. I don't think we'll ever see a major studio take on a film like this because Mega Man isn't really an R-rated character, but Shankar could produce another one of his fan-made shorts like the Power Rangers one he made.
What do you all think about Shankar's idea for an R-rated Mega Man movie?
