Adam Sandler Confirms He's Developing HAPPY GILMORE 2 for Netflix
It actually looks like Adam Sandler might actually be developing Happy Gilmore 2! Last week, Christopher McDonald, who played Shooter McGavin in the original movie, offered an update claiming that a script had been written.
Now Sandler is confirming that the sequel is actually in development for Netflix. During an interview promoting his new film Spaceman on Netflix, the comedian talked to Dan Patrick on his sports radio show.
They discussed McDonald sharing news of the movie's development, and Sandler joked, "I was like, that's right, he's the bad guy!"
Sandler discussed where they are with the project, and said: "No no, it was nice. Very nice Danny, very nice. And, we're working on it. Me and Tim Herlihy are diligently trying to make a good reason for everyone to come and watch and have a good time. Netflix is excited about it. So, we're working on it. We've got some good ideas.”
He added: "Well, I'm shooting this movie that I'm in now, and when I get home, in a little while I call up Herlihy and we get in the room and jam and jam and jam. Now, we've been jamming, we have a million ideas already. We just gotta make it a movie.”
He continued: “And, make sure we're excited about people enjoying it. It's important, we love Happy Gilmore, we don't want to let anybody down. People have talked about this for many years. In fact, I walked down the streets of London, they say 'When is 'Appy coming?' We're going to work hard and make sure it's good."
Before Sandler confirmed the new, Drew Barrymore seemed to confirm the sequel in a preview clip has been released from Friday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show.
When talking about the sequel, Barrymore says in the video: “I want it. I need it. And I stayed up last night with my daughter watching Billy Madison. I sent Sandler a video of that, and then he sent me another video back, and I’m waiting to see if he’s confirming about the Happy Gilmore 2 script.”
The video then cuts to later and Barrymore looks at her phone and sees that Sandler had sent her a text. She said: “This just in, I have breaking news. ’ll just say this, from my source, that it is in process.”
She then reiterates, “There is a process, and that process is in process.”
All of this started with McDonald, who previously shared: "I saw Adam about two weeks ago, and he says to me, 'McDonald, you're gonna love this.' I said, 'What?' He says, 'How 'bout that,' [and] he shows me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2.'"
He then went on to say that it’s “in the works.” But, it good to get confirmation from Sandler on the matter.
Back in 2021 Sandler and McDonald had did an interview with the Golf Channel and when asked about a sequel, Sander said he would be into the idea saying: "It has not been discussed. But it certainly has been discussed on the Internet, and believe me, that Senior Tour idea… it would be so amazing."
It would be pretty cool if one day we saw a Happy Gilmore 2. I mean, the movie doesn’t really need a sequel. But, I like that we might be able to see what these characters are up to all these years later.
