Dwayne Johnson Shares BLACK ADAM VFX Set Photo and Details on What He's Doing
Dwayne Johnson has shared some new behind-the-scenes photos from his upcoming DC film Black Adam, which he has been building epic hype for. The photos feature the actor doing some VFX work on the film, and he explains what he’s doing in the image. He also offers up some details on his character:
Very long work day, but very productive for our VFX production of BLACK ADAM⚡️
10 hours of sitting in “the egg” shooting extremely complicated sequences where I can only move my eyes, head & shoulders focusing on marks no bigger than a quarter - all while performing as #BlackAdam.
In the mythology, TETH ADAM (his original name before his soul is darkened to BLACK), starts off as a slave in his birthplace of Kahndaq.
These slave sequences are super intricate and complex.
Requires a real TEAM EFFORT to get the job done.
A huge THANK YOU to/
our director, Jaume Collet Serra.
our Black Adam VFX Supervisor, and two time Oscar winner, Bill Westenhofer.
our entire A+ post production crew
and the brilliant LOLA Visual Effects Team.
Thank you all for your time and incredible talents and I can’t wait for the world to finally see THE MAN IN BLACK⚡️

During a previous interview, director Jaume Collet-Serra said Black Adam will be a disruptor in the way that superhero movies are made:
"Black Adam is a disruptor in the DC Comics world, and it has to be a disruptor in the way that we make a superhero movie. I like to be challenged, and I wanted to create new technology, so we developed the way that [Adam] moves, the way that he flies, his costume. And then it trickled down to every other character and the movie itself. But there was always the goal – to be new and unique in the storytelling and in every aspect of it."
While the character Black Adam is the main focus of the story, the movie also introduces several other new characters including Adam’s wife Adrianna and also the Justice Society of America, which includes Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan). When talking about these new characters, Collet-Serra said:
"You have a couple of seasoned veterans, like Hawkman and Doctor Fate, and you have a couple of newbies like Atom Smasher and Cyclone. And that chemistry and coming together to try to defeat someone who’s undefeatable like Black Adam, creates a lot of interesting situations – without having the pressure to carry the whole movie. That’s a much more fresh way in."
When talking about the revolutionary technology that Black Adam is utilizing, something producer Hiram Garcia said:
"This is a character with amazing abilities. He has super speed, can fly, and has world breaking strength to name a few. We wanted to make sure moviegoers feel that throughout the entire movie. You're not going to see him use super speed just once and then it stops, this is part of his arsenal. It's common to see abilities fall to the wayside when dealing with characters like that but one of our many goals was to keep continuity there and push the bar in terms of how we do it. For example, the technology we're using to make Black Adam fly has never been done before. It's completely unique. It was critical for us to ensure that it felt special, authentic, and real. [Director] Jaume [Collet-Serra] took that to heart. Our special effects' team are Oscar winners, and we certainly put them to work.
"We're just so excited for you and the fans to see the film, because this cast and crew worked exceptionally hard to just make this film feel fresh, and really introduce a new group of incredible characters to the world. All while making sure we unleash Black Adam on the DC Universe in a big way. This guy is an absolute force of nature. A force of nature that dishes out justice the way he wants. Unfortunately not many people walk away from the kind of justice he delivers. We mean it when we say the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is going to change. When Black Adam arrives, everything's going to change."
I’m super interested in seeing how this movie turns out, especially with how it will supposedly push the innovation of how superhero movies are made. Black Adam will hit theaters on July 29th, 2022. To read up on all of our Black Adam coverage, click here.
