Each of The New DC Studios Projects Will Shift Tone To "Reflect The Unique Sensibilities Of The Filmmakers"
DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn recently took to social media to share a little bit more information about his vision for the future of the DCU films and how the tone of each of the projects will reflect the style of the filmmakers developing them.
When a fan asked if his earlier comic book movies would "match the style and tone you are going for in the new DCU?," Gunn explained: "It will shift from project to project and will reflect the unique sensibilities of the filmmakers involved.”
While Gunn will have a heavy hand in several of the upcoming projects including Superman: Legacy, Waller, Creature Commandos, and Peacemaker Season 2, other filmmakers are being hired to develop most of the other projects. However, because of Gunn’s position, he will have a lot of control when it comes to the shared DC film and TV universe as a whole.
It seems like Gunn will be running things very similarly to how Kevin Feige runs things at Marvel Studios. While Feige does give the filmmakers freedom with their particular style and tone, he does control aspects of the stories and how those stories play out. It has yet to be seen how Gunn will run things when these DC projects really start to ramp up.
One thing we know for sure is that Gunn won’t be forcing his particular style of filmmaking into every DCU film project. Gunn also shared a Peacemaker behind-the-scenes video, which highlights an example of a filmmaking technique known as a "Texas Switch."
