Edgar Wright Says a BABY DRIVER Sequel Will Happen
We live in a world where if a film is successful or popular, audiences almost expect a sequel to follow. Baby Driver is one of the few original films of the year that was not based on a preexisting IP. It earned critical acclaim and made more than $226 million worldwide at the box office. You can easily argue that Baby Driver is director Edgar Wright's most successful movie. Not long after Baby Driver hit theaters last summer, Wright said he was considering making a sequel to the action movie. But now with 2017 drawing to a close, Wright is revealing that Baby Driver 2 is probably going to move forward in an interview with EW:
"Those talks are already in the works. The deal is being hammered out as we speak. So, hopefully, I'm going to at least write a second one. I've definitely got lots of ideas. Whether it's the next movie, I don't know. I'm just working that out at the moment, actually. I have a couple of things that I've been developing, and also a couple of new ideas that I had, and all the nice things things that I've been offered since [the release of Baby Driver. I would like to get back on the saddle very shortly, because --- slightly beyond my control --- but there was four years between The World's End and Baby Driver. I don't want it to be that long again. I would love to have a film out in the next two years."
Pump the breaks Wright fans, there are a few things to consider about this news. Wright says he's going to at least write Baby Driver 2, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he'll direct. He could pass directing duties to someone else, but he's also written every movie that he's ever directed, so it would be a combo breaker if he passed on directing the sequel. And honestly, who would even want to watch an Edgar Wright sequel that he did not direct?
Also, Wright told EW that there's no guarantee the next movie he works on will be Baby Driver 2. He is a highly sought after filmmaker and may want to work on other projects before then.
Baby Driver is now available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD.
