Eiza González and Brandon Sklenar Dive Into the Intense World of Bodybuilding in IRON JANE
A new drama is currently in development, and it’s shaping up to be a gritty, character-driven ride. Iron Jane will star Eiza González and Brandon Sklenar, pulling audiences deep into the demanding and often unforgiving world of competitive bodybuilding.
The project comes from filmmaker Lissette Feliciano, who both wrote the script and will direct. At the center of the story is Janie John, played by González, a woman shaped by a childhood of neglect and feeling unseen.
“That changes when she finds herself pulled into the hyper-focused world of bodybuilding, where discipline and physical transformation offer her a sense of control and recognition she’s never had.
“Under the guidance of a former champion, played by Sklenar, Janie begins pushing herself to extremes. Training, enhancers, and obsession blur the line between dedication and self-destruction as she chases perfection.
Feliciano opened up about what drives the story and why González was the right fit, saying: “’Iron Jane’ is a story about discovering that true strength is often found in surrender.
“Eiza brings a physical and emotional commitment, bravery, and collaborative spirit to the role that fully realizes the character I imagined on the page.
“Her transformation into Jane is inspiring, and alongside Brandon’s quietly magnetic presence as her coach, creates a relationship that I hope will stay with you long after the film ends.”
The film isn’t just about physical transformation. It’s digging into identity, ambition, and the cost of chasing an ideal that might not be sustainable.
Producer Andrea Bucko highlighted that angle, saying: “It’s an absolute thrill to work with a female director and star on a story that centers such a powerful and nuanced female perspective. ‘Iron Jane’ gives us the chance to explore ambition, body image, and identity through a lens that feels both timely and deeply human.”
Highland Film Group executives are clearly confident in what’s coming together. CEO Arianne Fraser shared: “We have a stellar cast led by Eiza González and Brandon Sklenar whose commitment to the physicality of their roles has already begun.”
COO Delphine Perrier added: “We were immediately impressed with Lissette Feliciano’s debut feature which was an incredibly moving and heartfelt exploration of women’s roles in society. She has such a bright future and is the ideal filmmaker to bring this inspirational story to life.”
González has been on a steady rise with standout performances in films like Baby Driver and I Care a Lot, and she’s got a packed slate ahead, including Guy Ritchie’s In the Grey alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Henry Cavill, as well as Boots Riley’s I Love Boosters. She’s also set to return to the hit Netflix series 3 Body Problem.
Sklenar, meanwhile, continues to build momentum after breaking out in 1923 and appearing in It Ends With Us. He’s currently featured in The Housemaid and has several projects lined up, including F.A.S.T. and Vegas: A Love Story.
Iron Jane sounds like it’s aiming for something raw and intense, exploring how far someone will go to reshape themselves both physically and mentally.
