Elisabeth Moss to Lead Hulu’s High-Stakes Legal Thriller CONVICTION From HOUSE Creator David Shore
Hulu is teaming up with some serious talent for its next drama. The streamer has ordered a series adaptation of Jack Jordan’s 2023 novel Conviction, with Elisabeth Moss set to star and executive produce. The series is being adapted for television by David Shore, the creator of House, who will also serve as showrunner.
This one sounds like it’s going to be intense. Conviction centers on Neve Harper, a sharp and self-assured criminal defense attorney who lands what should be the defining case of her career.
According to the official logline, “Criminal defense attorney Neve Harper (Moss), a confident lawyer, finally has her shot at a career-making case: a high-profile murder where the husband is accused of killing his wife by setting their home on fire.
“But when a mysterious stranger begins blackmailing Neve, she is forced to compromise every legal, moral, and ethical obligation to gain an acquittal – or else risk her dark secrets being exposed.”
This seems like it’s going to be a pressure cooker kind of series. A high-profile murder trial, a dangerous client, and a secret that could blow everything up. It sounds like the kind of morally messy material Moss thrives in.
Moss has led The Handmaid’s Tale for six seasons on Hulu, earning four Emmy nominations for outstanding lead actress in a drama and winning in 2017. She also shared in the show’s best drama series nominations, which resulted in a win that same year.
She’s currently executive producing The Testaments, which premieres on Hulu April 8. Beyond Gilead, Moss picked up six Emmy nominations for Mad Men and one for Top of the Lake, bringing her total nominations to eleven. Up next, she’ll star in Apple TV’s Imperfect Women alongside Kerry Washington and Kate Mara.
Shore’s TV résumé speaks for itself. He created the long-running Fox medical drama House, which starred Hugh Laurie and ran for eight seasons. He later delivered ABC’s The Good Doctor, which wrapped in 2024 after seven seasons.
His credits also include Sneaky Pete, Accused, and Law & Order. Pairing Shore’s knack for complex procedural drama with Moss’ ability to carry layered, emotionally charged characters feels like a smart move for Hulu.
Hulu clearly believes in this team, and it’s easy to see why. A legal thriller built around secrets, blackmail, and a morally compromised protagonist, led by Moss and guided by Shore, has all the ingredients for a gripping binge.
If you’re into high-stakes courtroom drama with a psychological edge, this is one to keep on your radar.
