Ella Purnell Teases FALLOUT Season 2’s Wild Road Trip and Deeper Character Conflicts
As Fallout Season 2 inches closer to its Prime Video debut, Ella Purnell is offering fans a glimpse of what’s ahead for vault dweller Lucy MacLean and her unlikely companion, the Ghoul, played by Walton Goggins.
The new season promises to up the ante on the wasteland chaos, emotional tension, and twisted moral choices that made the first season such a hit.
In a recent conversation with Empire, Purnell revealed that Season 2 will dive deeper into Lucy’s uneasy partnership with the Ghoul as the two set off on a perilous road trip across the irradiated remains of America.
“At times, it’s like [they] are on this buddy road trip, and then other times, they’re so much at arms. They’re trying to influence each other and see who’s going to rub off on whom. Is the Ghoul going to become good? Is Lucy going to become bad? Or are they going to be somewhere in the middle?”
That push-and-pull dynamic is sure to to be one of the more interesting aspects of Fallout Season 2, as Lucy and the Ghoul’s bond will be tested against the unforgiving wasteland and their conflicting moral compasses.
Fans will remember that the first season ended with a major revelation when Lucy discovered her father, Hank MacLean, was actually a former Vault-Tec employee who had been cryogenically frozen and later reanimated centuries after the Great War.
In his escape, Hank stole Maximus’ power armor and vanished, leaving Lucy to team up with the Ghoul on a mission to track him down.
Season 2 is also taking viewers to a fan-favorite setting from the Fallout video games: the neon-lit ruins of New Vegas. Comparing some of the upcoming moments to classic theater, Purnell shared:
“We have a couple of really incredible scenes that are just these big, heavyweight bouts of intellect. It was like doing Waiting for Godot in the middle of the whole thing.”
Fallout Season 2 premieres on Amazon Prime Video on December 17, 2025, and it looks like we’re in for a morally twisted, post-apocalyptic road trip through sin city that fans won’t want to miss.
