Enjoy Matthew McConaughey Watching the Bonkers Trailer for His Film TIPTOES for the First Time
In 2003 a very politically incorrect film was released titled Tiptoes, and it has an all-star cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Kate Beckinsale, Patricia Arquette, Peter Dinklage, and Gary Oldman as a little person.
This movie was completely bonkers, and the trailer makes it look like a fake movie, but this shit is real! It exists, and it’s insane that it does!
McConaughey was recently a guest on the podcast 2 Bears, 1 Cave with comedians Tom Segura and Bert Kreischer, and the actor had never seen the trailer before, and his reaction to watching it for the first time is hilarious.
Tiptoes follows Steven, a firefighter, and Carol, an artist, who are in a loving relationship until Carol unexpectedly becomes pregnant. Steven then reveals a long-kept secret: he comes from a family of little people, including his twin brother, Rolfe.
Carol must confront her own biases and decide if she’s ready to raise a child who might be born with dwarfism. The story centers around their evolving relationship and Rolfe’s experience as a little person and explores family acceptance.
The movie became infamous for its approach to sensitive topics. Oldman controversially plays Rolfe, Steven’s little-person brother, by hunching over and using camera tricks, which a lot of people found offensive and disrespectful to the little-person community.
Despite featuring several well-known actors, the film’s clumsy handling of disability representation and family dynamics made it feel exploitative and politically incorrect.
The film has since become a cult curiosity because Hollywood actually produced a movie like this.
You can watch McConaughey’s reaction to the trailer below, and I also included the trailer for you to watch just in case you’ve never seen it.
