Epic First Trailer For Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY

The first trailer for The Odyssey has finally arrived, and it’s firing up my imagination. As a longtime fan of Christopher Nolan and this legendary story, I have such high expectations for this!

What we’re seeing feels massive, mysterious, and carefully restrained, like Nolan is only letting us peek through the door before unleashing the full experience. If this trailer is any indication, audiences are in for one hell of a cinematic journey.

The Odyssey is Nolan’s action fantasy epic, which is inspired by the ancient Greek poem from Homer. The story follows the long and brutal journey of Odysseus as he fights his way home after the Trojan War.

The film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, with Tom Holland playing his son, Telemachus. Even in these early glimpses, Damon looks locked in, carrying the weight of a warrior who’s seen too much, but nothing will stop him as he embarks on his journey.

The cast lineup also includes Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, John Leguizamo, Himesh Patel, Will Yun Lee, Mia Goth, Benny Safdie, Elliot Page, Bill Irwin, Corey Hawkins, and more.

Nolan recently opened up about why this story mattered so much to him, offering insight into what drew him to this project in the first place:

“Emma [Thomas, producer and Nolan’s wife] said it best when we first announced the project: it’s foundational. There’s a bit of everything in it. I mean, it truly contains all stories…

“As a filmmaker, you’re looking for gaps in cinematic culture, things that haven’t been done before. And what I saw is that all of this great mythological cinematic work that I had grown up with – Ray Harryhausen movies and other things – I’d never seen that done with the sort of weight and credibility that an A-budget and a big Hollywood, IMAX production could do.”

The scale feels enormous, and while the spectacle is there, it’s grounded in grit and emotion. If this first trailer is only a small taste of what’s coming, then Nolan might be on the verge of delivering one of the most ambitious mythological films ever put on screen.

The Odyssey is set to hit theaters in the United States on July 17, 2026, courtesy of Universal Pictures.
