Ernie Hudson Comments on Paul Feige's GHOSTBUSTERS Movie - "It Wasn't What Fans Were Hoping For"
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire had a decent opening weekend at the box office, but for a lot of fans the movie ended up being a disappointment. Franchise star Ernie Hudson was recently asked about another disappointing Ghostbusters movie, the 2016 Paul Feige-directed reboot.
During an interview with The Independent, Hudson said that the decision to reboot the franchise instead of continue from the original films wasn’t the best idea. He shared: “Look, I’m a fan of [director] Paul Feig so I have nothing negative about him to say. Other than: I don’t quite understand why you do a reboot, you know what I mean? Just make another movie.”
Hudson went on to say that he found the female-led cast of Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones were “brilliantly funny on their own,” but explained that fans were really “invested in the [original] story and the characters and I think it was disappointing. I enjoyed the movie but I think it wasn’t what fans were hoping for.”
I’ll be honest, though, Frozen Empire, isn’t really what I was hoping for, either. What’s interesting here is that the Ghostbusters reboot has a 74% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a 49% audience rating. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has a 43% critics score and an 84% audience score. So things have flipped.
Frozen Empire is a fun movie, but as I watched it a second time, there were a lot of things that made no sense to the story. I’m sure that we will see more Ghostbusters movies made and as the creative team moves forward with the franchise I hope they learn from their mistakes.
