Ernie Hudson Explains Why He Hasn't Watched the Trailer for THE CROW Reboot

The upcoming reboot of James O'Barr's comic The Crow is not getting a lot of love from fans. Most people are bashing it, and that includes the director of the original film Alex Proyas. People just aren’t happy that this movie is being remade because most people argue that The Crow is Brandon Lee’s movie, and out of respect for that, the movie shouldn’t be rebooted.

Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson, who also starred in the original The Crow, has admitted that he has not watched the trailer for the new movie. In fact, he hasn’t even watched any of the sequels. During an interview with CB, Hudson explained:

"I haven't seen it. The actor, who -- I can't think of his name -- is playing the lead, I love and respect. But, for me, The Crow is Brandon Lee. I can't imagine ... The Crow is many different stories, let's hope they don't try to re-do him, that they do their own thing with it and take it in a different direction. I haven't seen it, I haven't seen any of the other Crow [movies], because [of] what happened to Brandon."

Brandon Lee starred as Eric Draven in the original film and was tragically killed due to an on-set accident, which you can read about here. Bill Skarsgård (It) is the actor who is playing Draven in the reboot, and while I like him as an actor as well, after watching the trailer, I don’t buy him as this character.

Hudson previously said: "I can't watch The Crow. It breaks my heart, and I can't get past it. So much of it was action stuff, but Brandon and I got a chance to act together."

In the new film: “Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA Twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.”

This version of the movie comes from director Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman, Ghost in the Shell), and it also stars singer/actor FKA TwigsDanny Huston (30 Days of Night), Laura Birn (Foundation), Sami Bouajila (A Son), and Jordan Bolger (The Woman King).

The Crow reboot will released in theaters on June 7, 2024.
