EVIL DEAD RISE Director Discusses the Bloody Trailer and Says It's Only 10% of the Horrific Experience
The first trailer for Evil Dead Rise was recently released, and it got a lot of squeamish reactions from fans. It was filled with a variety of horrific and disturbing scenes that involved cheese graters, chainsaws, a tattoo machine, the Book of the Dead, and something being scalped.
The trailer was loaded with terrifying insanity and it’s only a small fraction of the nightmarish horrors that await audiences. During a recent interview with Empire Magazine, director Lee Cronin talked about the trailer and teased the film:
"The scalp-rip is definitely one of my favorites. It burns into the eyes a little bit. It's a taster. There's a lot more to come -- the moments people are responding to, you're really only getting 10% of the experience."
Cronin went on to talk about the cringe-worthy cheese grater scene being slammed into someone’s leg:
"It's what I like to call the 'leg-guine' scene. They always terrify me for cooking, because it feels so easy that you could lose some knuckles. When I was creating the movie, I was just thinking about something ... not to say it hasn't been used before, but I haven't seen it personally."
Then there’s the tattoo machine, which is said to have significance in the film's narrative, and the director explained how:
"Ellie's character is a tattoo artist in the story, which brings the tattoo gun into play. I've actually got one tattoo on my arm right now that's a dreadful stick drawing of one of the kill moments in Evil Dead Rise -- but I can't show it yet because we haven't spoiled that actual moment."
Rad. In the film, “a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”
The movie is produced by Sam Raimi, who previously teased that the movie will be “terrifying” and “knock people's socks off.” Producer Bruce Campbell also said that Evil Dead Rise is going to be a "much more excruciating" experience from an emotional level, and you can feel that in this trailer!
The movie stars Alyssa Sutherland (Vikings), Lily Sullivan (Picnic At Hanging Rock).Gabrielle Echols (Reminiscence), Morgan Davies (The End), and Nell Fisher (Splendid Isolation). Evil Dead Rise is slated to hit theaters on April 21, 2023.
