EVIL DEAD Spinoff Film in Development with Director Sébastien Vaniček
An Evil Dead spinoff film is in development with Sam Raimi producing through his Ghost House Pictures, and Sébastien Vaniček is said to be attached to direct the project. Vaniček is best known for directing Infested, which was a modern-day Arachnophobia-type movie. The movie took home the awards of "Best Picture" and "Best Director" at Fantastic Fest.
Unfortunately, there are no details to share in regard to the story right now. But, Evil Dead franchise actor and producer Bruce Campbell has teased that the franchise was going to be pumping out more content following the success of Evil Dead Rise.
Campbell said: "We're going to do them probably more like every two to three years now, rather than every 10 years. But, hey, we've seen with Star Wars – you don't want to wear people out. Keep them guessing! We never wore out our welcome with Evil Dead because we never choked them."
He also said that Raimi and his brother were writing an Evil Dead bible for other filmmakers to use, saying: “It’s also the first time Sam is working with his brother Ivan to create an overall Bible that will give future writers and directors an idea of where this thing should go next to potentially tie in some of these stories. So I think it’s going to get a little more tied in as the years go by. But because it’s all about the books. It could be a book in the past, a book in the future. It’s yet to be determined.”
I love the Evil Dead franchise, and I’m sure this spinoff is one of a few that are probably currently in development. It will be interesting to see how these future films expand on the Evil Dead universe!
