Ewan McGregor Claims There are "No Plans" For an Obi-Wan Kenobi Movie
Over the past few months, a lot of rumors have surfaced in regards to an Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars movie. It's been said that film is in pre-production and will be ready to start shooting in 2019. There was a plot synopsis that leaked and talk of the movie being developed for Disney's streaming service. The movie even had a director attached to it at one point. That director was Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Crown), who is supposedly no longer attached.
There have been so many rumors from so many different sources, it's hard not to think that something is happening with an Obi-Wan movie! But now, actor Ewan McGregor claims that there are no plans! While he was a guest on The View, McGregor was asked about possibly coming back to reprise his role and this was his reply:
"I would totally do it, of course. There’s no plans as such to do it, as far as I know."
There's a good chance that he's saying this because he's not allowed to confirm that something is happening. After All, Lucasfilm hasn't made any kind of official announcement. If there is an Obi-Wan movie being developed, it's not like McGregor is going to make the big announcement on The View. McGregor went on to say:
"There must be a good story to tell as they’re doing spin-offs – there’s likely to be a good Obi-Wan between me and Alec Guinness."
That story would most likely take place while on Tatooine after the events of Revenge of the Sith. It's there he went into hiding and looked after Luke Skywalker from afar. He was there for decades and I think that there are a lot of stories to explore there.
After everything that we've been hearing about this Obi-Wan movie, and now McGregor denying he knows anything about it, I'm curious to see how this whole thing shakes out. I hope we do get an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, though! What do you think about McGregor's comments?
