Ewan McGregor Is Apparently "Begging" for OBI-WAN KENOBI Season 2
Lucasfilm’s Obi-Wan Kenobi was not as great as it should have been. There was a great story to tell there, but the opportunity to tell that story was squandered with bad ideas and poor writing. A lot of fans were disappointed by the series, but if Lucasfilm wanted to tell more stories with the character, they totally could! I’m just not sure if they should.
Ewan McGregor seemed to really enjoy his time making the series, though, which is actually cool to hear. While the end product may not have been the best, it’s good to know that the cast and crew had a good time making the show.
During a recent interview, Vivien Lyra Blair, who played young Princess Leia in the series, revealed McGregor is begging to come back for another season and continue to expand on Kenobi’s story. She told The Direct:
"Well, I think a lot of people are asking me, 'Will we get a second season of Obi-Wan?' And I honestly, I think it's very much a possibility because Ewan is just begging to do another one. He's really excited.”
Blair went on to say that she "would love to" return as Leia as well, but doesn’t know how exactly she’d fit into it. She said:
"I don't see how I would fit into it, because it's very implied that she doesn't see him again until she asked for help in the fourth movie, A New Hope. And so, I think it's kind of like, how would I fit into that? And so we're kind of hoping for my own show there. We're kind of thinking it could be fun to do a show of Leia on Alderaan. And I really hope something like that could work out."
While the actors would like to continue their Star Wars journey, Kathleen Kennedy and director Deborah Chow aren’t committed to it happening. McGregor previously said: "I was so happy to do it again, and so happy to work with Hayden again. I hope we get the chance to do it again." As for what Kennedy thinks about a second season, she said:
"I always hesitate to say no to more Obi-Wan Kenobi. Maybe we end up doing something that gets incorporated into some of the other stories that we're doing, or eventually into a movie, but who knows? But right now, it's still our standard stand-alone limited series. We have no plans for expansion right now."
When Chow talked about the future of Obi-Wan Kenobi, she said: “For this one, we really did conceive it to be a limited series. It really is one big story with a beginning, middle, and end. So, we weren’t thinking past that. I think, you know, if it was to go forward, it would only be if there was a real reason for another one.”
If Lucasfilm ever did decide to continue the adventures of Obi-Wan Kenobi in a series, they should bring in a whole new creative team and make sure that team is led by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and get Tony Gilroy involved! These guys know how to tell great Star Wars stories!
