Exciting and Interesting Story Arc Teased for That Surprise Variant in SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE

If you haven’t seen Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse yet, you should know that this article gets into some major spoiler territory. It deals with the very end of the movie. If you have seen the movie, don’t worry, you know exactly what this article is going to cover.

During the climax of the film, Miles Morales attempts to send himself back to his reality after an epic chase sequence involving Spider-Man 2099 and the Spider Society, and he seemingly succeeded. But, as the story continues to play out it’s revealed that he actually sent himself to the universe of the spider which turned him into Spider-Man. He is then captured by an alternate version of himself who is also in that universe, and in this universe, Miles is The Prowler.

Co-director Kemp Powers recently talked to Variety about the film's big surprise ending and he went on to tease an exciting and interesting story arc for The Prowler version of Miles. He explained:

"It was such an exciting character, it was actually hard for us to keep it a secret. Oh, man, the design is so different, it's such a visual departure. And to explore how Miles might have developed if he were in a different world where he didn't have his father, he was mentored by his uncle, what kind of kid would he be? For people who see Miles G. Morales at the end, don't judge a book by it's cover. There's a lot to learn about that character. It's a very, very interesting character."

From what little we know about Miles’s The Prowler, it looks like he might be a villainous character. That’s the first impression that we get. So if they don’t want us to judge this character by how the way he looks, maybe he’s not the villain we think he is. Maybe this version of the character is more of an anti-hero.

I imagine the next chapter of the story, Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse, will see The Prowler version of Miles Morales wanting to go to the universe of the Spider-Man version of Miles, so that he could see his dad. But we’ll just have to wait and see. I’m excited to see how this story continues to play out!

How do you think the story is going to play out? Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse is dated for March 29th, 2024.
