FAST AND FURIOUS 11 Will Be Written By THE FLASH Screenwriter Christina Hodson and Oren Uziel
Universal Pictures is starting development on Fast and Furious 11 and they’ve hired Christina Hodson (The Flash, Bumblebee) and Oren Uziel (The Lost City, 22 Jump Street) to co-write the script. It was previously confirmed that Fast X director Louis Leterrier is returning to direct.
This is a strong writing team, and Hodson is in high demand in Hollywood right now as she’s been working on several high-profile film projects. It’ll be interesting to see what they end up bringing to the franchise in its final chapter. It turns out that the two writers at friends and they share an office space with each other, so the fact they were hired to work together makes sense.
There are no details about the final chapter of the franchise, but the storyline will be set up in Fast X. The two are companion pieces, a two-part grand finale of over-the-top action epicness! When the creative team was developing the final tenth film, it got so big that they decided to slit the story into two separate movies.
The two films were originally supposed to shoot back-to-back, but that obviously all changed when original director Justin Lin exited the project over creative differences. Leterrier previously said these next films are ”the sum of everything we love about the Fast and Furious universe."
Here’s the synopsis:
Fast X, the tenth film in the Fast & Furious Saga, launches the final chapters of one of cinema’s most storied and popular global franchises, now in its third decade and still going strong with the same core cast and characters as when it began.
Over many missions and against impossible odds, Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family have outsmarted, out-nerved and outdriven every foe in their path. Now, they confront the most lethal opponent they’ve ever faced: A terrifying threat emerging from the shadows of the past who’s fueled by blood revenge, and who is determined to shatter this family and destroy everything—and everyone—that Dom loves, forever.
In 2011’s Fast Five, Dom and his crew took out nefarious Brazilian drug kingpin Hernan Reyes and decapitated his empire on a bridge in Rio De Janeiro. What they didn’t know was that Reyes’ son, Dante (Aquaman’s Jason Momoa), witnessed it all and has spent the last 12 years masterminding a plan to make Dom pay the ultimate price.
Dante’s plot will scatter Dom’s family from Los Angeles to the catacombs of Rome, from Brazil to London and from Portugal to Antarctica. New allies will be forged and old enemies will resurface. But everything changes when Dom discovers that his own 8-year-old son (Leo Abelo Perry, Black-ish) is the ultimate target of Dante’s vengeance.
Fast X was written by Justin Lin (F9) and Dan Mazeau (Wrath of the Titans). Fast X stars returning cast members Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Jason Statham, John Cena and Scott Eastwood, with Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron.
The film also features new cast members including Brie Larson as Tess, a rogue representative from the Agency; Alan Ritchson (Reacher) as Aimes, the new head of the Agency who doesn’t hold the same fondness for Dom’s crew as his predecessor, Mr. Nobody; Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad) as a Brazilian street racer with a powerful tie to Dom’s past; and Rita Moreno as Dom and Mia’s Abuelita Toretto.
Fast X will be released on May 19th, 2023.
