New Poster for THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE Features The Deep-Cut Villain, Wart
Nintendo has released a brand-new poster for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and it’s packed with colorful chaos, cosmic adventure, and a fun little surprise that longtime Mario fans are already zooming in on.
The sequel to the hit animated Mario film is gearing up for its final trailer debut on Monday, March 9, and this latest poster gives fans plenty to look at while we wait.
Like most things in the Mario universe, the artwork is bursting with characters, bright colors, and interstellar action. But hidden among the madness is a reveal that confirms a pretty unexpected character is joining the movie.
If you look closely just to the right of Mario’s giant boot, you’ll spot none other than Wart making his big-screen debut, standing alongside Mouser and Birdo.
Chris Pratt hinted this kind of surprise was coming. While talking about the sequel earlier, the actor teased that there were a few unexpected characters waiting in the wings, saying there were a “couple more” surprises still to be revealed.
For fans who remember the deep corners of Nintendo history, Wart is a pretty cool inclusion. Known as “Mamu” in Japan, the toad-like villain ruled over the dream world of Subcon.
He first appeared as the main antagonist and final boss in Super Mario Bros. 2 back in 1988. Wart’s signature attack involved spitting bubbles at his enemies while commanding a crew sometimes referred to as the “8 bits” gang.
Despite being the big bad of that game, Wart hasn’t had much time in the spotlight since. He popped up again in Super Mario Advance in 2001 and later appeared in a much friendlier musical role in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.
Mouser shares a similar story. The bomb-throwing villain also debuted in Super Mario Bros. 2 and hasn’t exactly been a regular in the franchise since. These two aren’t exactly household Mario names like Yoshi or Donkey Kong, which makes their appearance in the movie all the more interesting.
The movie itself takes Mario and Luigi far beyond the Mushroom Kingdom. In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the brothers blast off into space where they team up with Princess Rosalina to stop Bowser’s vengeful son, Bowser Jr., from carrying out his latest scheme.
The film features a returning lineup of voice talent including Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, and Benny Safdie. Joining them is Brie Larson, who lends her voice to Rosalina.
With the final trailer arriving on March 9 and the movie hitting theaters on April 3, 2026, it looks like Nintendo and Illumination are getting ready to send Mario on his biggest adventure yet.
