Final Trailer Slithers In for Paul Rudd and Jack Black’s ANACONDA Comedy Remake
Sony Pictures has unleashed the final trailer for their upcoming Anaconda remake, a full-on action comedy that’s heading into theaters on Christmas Day. This new take on the film leans hard into absurdity and self-awareness, flipping the 1997 cult classic into a meta jungle adventure that knows exactly how ridiculous it’s being.
The original Anaconda is one of those peak 90s movies that somehow balances unintentional laughs with genuine tension, powered by a cast that included Jennifer Lopez and Ice Cube.
This remake isn’t trying to recreate that tone at all. Instead, it cranks the comedy dial way up and builds the story around two longtime friends spiraling through a midlife crisis who decide the solution is to remake their favorite movie. Naturally, that plan goes sideways the moment a real giant snake shows up.
Anaconda stars Paul Rudd and Jack Black as Griff and Doug, childhood best friends who finally pull the trigger on their lifelong dream. What starts as a self-funded passion project deep in the Amazon quickly turns into a survival nightmare.
It’s explained that “an actual giant anaconda appears, turning their comically chaotic set into a very deadly situation. The movie they're dying to make? It might just get them killed.”
The film also features Steve Zahn, Thandiwe Newton, Daniela Melchior, and Selton Mello. The movie is directed by Tom Gormican, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Kevin Etten. Gormican previously directed That Awkward Moment and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, and that same self-referential comedic energy is all over this project.
The marketing for this remake has been… interesting. The trailers lean into the awkward humor, exaggerated performances, and a deliberately messy tone that feels designed to either completely win you over or make you check out instantly.
The movie recently screened and from what I’ve seen has been mostly met with positive revews, so that’s a good sign!
Sony Pictures will release Anaconda in theaters nationwide on December 25th, 2025. Whether this thing crashes and burns or becomes a weird holiday hit, we’ll find out soon enough when the snake slithers back onto the big screen.
