First Clip from EX MACHINA Live-Action Film - "The Turing Test"
Not long ago we brought you the trailer for Alex Garland's fantastic looking sci-fi thriller Ex Machina. Now today we bring you the first clip from the film. The clip is called "The Turing Test," and it features Domhnall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac discussing the ins and outs of the Turing Test, which is a method for ascertaining whether or not a machine is artificially intelligent. This is a test that he and Gleeson are about to perform on Alicia Vikander's robot, and if successful, it would be a huge milestone in "the history of Gods," as Gleeson puts it. Of course, if there's one thing we've learned from playing God in the movies, it's that it comes along with negative consequences.
This is the first film that Garland has directed, although over the years he's written scripts for films such as Sunshine and 28 Days Later. This next project seems like it has the making of a great sci-fi, and I'm excited about seeing it. Here's the synopsis:
Caleb Smith (Gleeson), a programmer at an internet-search giant, wins a competition to spend a week at the private mountain estate of the company's brilliant and reclusive CEO, Nathan Bateman (Isaac). Upon his arrival, Caleb learns that Nathan has chosen him to be the human component in a Turing Test—charging him with evaluating the capabilities, and ultimately the consciousness, of Nathan’s latest experiment in artificial intelligence. That experiment is Ava (Alicia Vikander), a breathtaking A.I. whose emotional intelligence proves more sophisticated––and more deceptive.
The movie will be released in theaters on April 10th, 2015.
