First Look at JUMANJI 3 Brings the Game Into the Real World
The Jumanji franchise is officially back in action, and fans finally have their first real peek at what’s coming. After years of waiting, the next chapter is rolling cameras and delivering a fun tease that hints at a wild new direction for the series. If you’ve been eager for updates on the upcoming sequel, this first look brings plenty to talk about.
The modern Jumanji era kicked off with Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan in the 2017 hit Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which pulled in a massive $962.5 million worldwide against a $90 million budget.
Its follow up, Jumanji: The Next Level, arrived in 2019 and continued that winning streak with another $801.7 million haul. That film left things on a surprising note when creatures from the game spilled into reality, leaving fans wondering where the story could go next. After nearly six years, we’re finally getting the answer.
A first look imagine has now been released that shows Dr. Smolder Bravestone, Ruby Roundhouse, Franklin Finbar, and Professor Shelly Oberon standing together in an American city during Christmas. The production is currently filming in Los Angeles.
The big question now becomes whether these avatars are still being controlled by players or if they’ve developed identities of their own. The previous movies explored the players’ personalities bleeding into their avatars, so flipping that dynamic could make for a fun and surprising twist once the game collides with the real world again.
Back in 2022, Johnson teased how excited he was to return. "I can’t wait for [Jumanji 3]," he said while promoting Black Adam. "I'm working with Jake Kasdan, who's our director. We're doing a movie called Red One together. But we'll continue to write, develop the Jumanji 3. I cannot wait!"
He added, "Jake has a very, very special cool idea that for Jumanji 3 could be the finale. But in the spirit of that, it's really special. I'll just say that."
Director Jake Kasdan is back for Jumanji 3, once again teaming up with writers Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. Along with the returning main cast, the sequel brings back Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, Ser'Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, Danny DeVito, Rhys Darby, Bebe Neuwirth, and Lamorne Morris. Newcomers Brittany O'Grady, Burn Gorman, and Dan Hildebrand are also joining the fun.
Whether you count it as Jumanji 3 or Jumanji 4, the next big adventure is heading our way soon. The film is set to hit theaters on December 11, 2026.
