First Promo Image For THE WALKING DEAD Season 9 Features Key Characters in Washington D.C.

A new promo image has surfaced from The Walking Dead Season 9 and it seems to hint at the fact the continuing story will be set in a new location. It seems like that location is Washington D.C. as I believe that is The Capital in the background. Of course, as you can see, it's pretty much completely worn down by time.

We also have our first look at the return of Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, Lauren Cohan as Maggie and Norman Reedus as Daryl. A time jump has been confirmed for Season 9 and this is going to be the last Season that we see Rick in. The leadership role will be picked up by Daryl.

When talking to EW about Rick and how he would want to see him go out, he said:

"I’ve always said, I don’t care how it goes, but maybe a kid should take me out. It’s funny, because I was in the car yesterday, and I texted Scott Gimple and I said, ‘Promise me, when I die, on the credits sequence, you play Johnny Cash’s version of Hurt.’ And he just said, ‘I can’t make that promise obviously.’ So when I die, please print it in your magazine so that the fans will know to play it, even if we can’t. Even if Scott Gimple decides not to, please everybody play Hurt."

It's going to be interesting to see what exactly is in store for Season 9. Like all of you, I've got some theories, but we'll see what happens. When previously talking about Season 9, showrunner Angela Kang said:

"We come in [to season nine] on some really fun stuff. I'm really focusing a lot on the core character relationships in the show that have kind of been long lasting as well as servicing all of our wonderful series' regulars."

They will also put more of a spotlight on some of the female characters.

The Walking Dead will return for its ninth season in the fall.
