Alex Garland’s upcoming action drama thriller Civil War was recently screened at SXSW and the first reactions from viewers have started hitting social media. These first reactions to the film praise is and it’s being hailed as a masterpiece that is “scary as hell.”
Civil War does look like a great film that tells a fascinating story set in the near future. It’s an unsettling vision of the United States at war with itself as the government rises up against its citizens.

Dunst plays a journalist who is traveling across the United States during the Second American Civil War. The story is very much influenced by the increasingly unstable political divisions in the United States that we are currently seeing. A24 describes Civil War as "An adrenaline-fueled thrill ride” and Garland has previously described the film as "a sci-fi allegory for our currently polarized predicament.”
