Unsettling New Trailer for Alex Garland's CIVIL WAR Envisions the United States at War with Itself
A24 has released a new trailer for writer-director Alex Garland‘s upcoming action thriller war drama Civil War. The film is set in the near future, and it’s a scary vision of the United States at war with itself. In the story, the government is brutally battling against its citizens.
The brief synopsis for the film reads: “A race to the White House in a near-future America balanced on the razor’s edge.” The movie stars Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Jesse Plemons, Sonoya Mizuno and Nick Offerman as the President of the United States.
Dunst plays a journalist who is traveling across the United States during the Second American Civil War. The film is clearly influenced by the increasingly unstable political divisions in the United States. A24 describes Civil War as "an adrenaline-fueled thrill ride,” and Garland has previously described the film as "a sci-fi allegory for our currently polarized predicament.”
Garland, who wrote and directed Civil War, is the filmmaking behind Ex Machina, Annihilation, and Men, and it looks like he’s made another wild movie.
Civil War hits theaters on April 26th.
