First Reactions to EXPEND4BLES Call the Film "Barely Watchable" and "Instantly Forgettable"

The first reactions to Sylvester Stallone’s fourth installment of The Expendables have surfaced, and a lot of the reviews are slamming the film for how bad it turned out. From the beginning, this has been a ridiculous franchise, and the whole point of it is pointless action-packed fun that you don’t really need to think about. It’s just stupid fun. That’s exactly what I was expecting for Expend4ables. This franchise knows exactly what it is and it doesn’t pretend to be anything other than that.

That being said, it’s funny when the critics say the film has a weak script because have any of these movies had strong scripts!? Anyway, there are a couple of critics out there who enjoyed it, and I included their reactions to the movie as well. Check out some of the reactions below and let us know what you think! Have you been expecting this to be a great movie!?

Breakfast All Day’s Christy Lemire and Alonso Duralde echoed similar sentiments regarding the film’s visual effects, with Duralde saying they’re “some of the worst I’ve ever seen in what we would call a major motion picture.” He continued, “There’s a whole part where a plane is landing and things are blowing up, and it looks like a video game from 1992.”

This next adrenaline-fueled adventure in the franchise will follow the Expendables team as they are drawn into a conspiracy that will ignite a nuclear conflict between Russia and the United States.

The synopsis reads: “A new generation of stars join the world’s top action stars for an adrenaline-fueled adventure in Expend4bles. Reuniting as the team of elite mercenaries, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, and Sylvester Stallone are joined for the first time by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Jacob Scipio, Levy Tran, and Andy Garcia. Armed with every weapon they can get their hands on and the skills to use them, The Expendables are the world’s last line of defense and the team that gets called when all other options are off the table. But new team members with new styles and tactics are going to give ‘new blood’ a whole new meaning.”

Stallone previously talked about his approach to the action of the film, explaining that they will be more “simplistic” and will put more of a focus on brute force. He says that the audience will “marvel” at the intensity of the action scenes, so that’s something to look forward to!

Scott Waugh (Need for Speed) directs Expend4bles, and the script was written by Spenser Cohen, with revisions by Max Adams and John Joseph Connolly. Expend4bles hits theaters on September 22nd.
