First Teaser Trailer For Nintendo's THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE
Nintendo has officially revealed the next big-screen adventure for Mario and the gang with the teaser trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, set to hit theaters in April 2026. The announcement arrived during the latest Nintendo Direct, giving fans a glimpse at what’s next for Illumination and Nintendo’s growing Mario cinematic universe.
The trailer itself keeps things simple as it opens with Mario peacefully napping in a grassy field before the title splashes across the screen. Just a quiet tease to signal that Nintendo isn’t slowing down when it comes to turning Mario into a full-fledged movie franchise.
The timing of the reveal is no accident. Nintendo dropped the teaser just a day before the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. video game.
Over those four decades, Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, and countless other characters have grown into cultural icons. It’s wild to think how far things have come since 1993, when Super Mario Bros. hit theaters as one of the first video game film adaptations, only to be widely panned.
Decades later, Mario is leading what’s now considered the most successful video game adaptation ever made.
The film franchise launched with The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which raked in over $1.3 billion worldwide in 2023 and ended up as the year’s second-highest grossing film, just behind Barbie. That movie turned out to be a massive hit with families and gamers alike, and now Illumination is bringing back the entire main cast. Chris Pratt returns as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, and Jack Black as Bowser.
While we don’t know much about the story yet, the title points directly to Super Mario Galaxy, the fan-favorite 2007 game that took Mario into the cosmos. Fans can expect plenty of nods to the larger Mario series, especially since Nintendo seems intent on building this into an interconnected film universe at a time when superhero movies are starting to lose their steam.
