First Teaser Trailer For Peacock's THE ‘BURBS Series Starring Keke Palmer and Jack Whitehall
Peacock has released the first trailer for its new mystery comedy series The ‘Burbs, and the streamer is putting its own modern spin on the 1989 cult classic.
As someone who loves the original film with Tom Hanks and Carrie Fisher, this version definitely feels like it is heading in a different direction with a very different tone. Whether it captures the charm and sharp humor of the movie remains to be seen. I’m not feeling it in this teaser, though.
The series stars Keke Palmer as Samira and Jack Whitehall as Rob, a young couple who reluctantly settle into the husband’s childhood home. Things spiral quickly when a mysterious neighbor appears across the street, dredging up long buried secrets and introducing new dangers that threaten what was supposed to be a quiet suburban reset.
Peacock describes the story as one where “old secrets of the cul de sac” surface and “new deadly threats shatter the illusion of their quiet little neighborhood,” leaning into the suburban paranoia that made the original movie so fun.
Alongside Palmer and Whitehall, the cast includes Julia Duffy as Lynn, Paula Pell as Dana, Mark Proksch as Tod, and Kapil Talwalkar as Naveen, with Kyrie McAlpin and Justin Kirk also appearing in Season 1.
The series was created by Celeste Hughey, who serves as writer and executive producer, with Rachel Shukert also writing and executive producing.
Palmer expressed her excitement for the project in the announcement, saying, “I am thrilled for people to watch the show. This cast and crew brought so much joy and creativity to the project and I think audiences are going to have a blast watching it.”
With a fresh suburban mystery, The ‘Burbs could offer a fun new twist on a beloved title. We will see how it stacks up when it arrives on Peacock on February 8.
