Full Trailer for Zack Snyder’s THE LAST PHOTOGRAPH Takes Us Into a Dark and Surreal Wilderness

Zack Snyder has a new movie ready to unleash, and this one looks like a major change of pace for the filmmaker.

The full trailer has arrived for The Last Photograph, Snyder’s new thriller starring Stuart Martin and Fra Fee. After spending years in the massive sci-fi world of Rebel Moon, Snyder slipped away and made something much smaller and more personal, filming the project across Iceland, Colombia, and Los Angeles throughout 2025.

Now we’re finally getting our first real look at it ahead of its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

The Last Photograph follows Ethan, a former DEA operative who “must return to the mountains of South America in an effort to find his missing niece and nephew, following the brutal murders of their diplomat parents.

“Enlisting the help of a washed-up junkie war photographer – the only person to have seen the face of the killers – he sets out, determined to find the children and the truth, but soon learns he must also face the ghosts of his past.

“Their journey into the unknown takes them further and further away from any civilization, bringing into question everything they believe, while slowly eroding the distinction between real and surreal.”

The cast also includes Costanza Andrade, Marlon Moreno, Quique Mendoza, Pedro Calvo-Anca, Ed Hughes, Mia Calvo, Gustavo Angarita, Jackie Kay, and José Restrepo.

Snyder also served as cinematographer on The Last Photograph, giving him control over the movie’s visual look and the movie has a distinct visual style. Considering how closely his filmmaking style is tied to his imagery, it should be interesting to see what he does with a story rooted in rugged landscapes, psychological instability, and increasingly surreal territory.

The music comes from Hans Zimmer, Omer Benyamin, and Steven Doar, which adds another interesting element to the project.

Snyder directs from a screenplay by Kurt Johnstad, who previously worked with him on 300 and Rebel Moon. Johnstad also wrote Act of Valor and 300: Rise of an Empire. The story itself comes from Snyder.

The Last Photograph currently doesn’t have a U.S. release date, and Snyder is still looking for a distributor.

I’m interested in seeing Snyder tackle a more contained thriller where the characters and their deteriorating grip on reality are driving the story. The trailer certainly makes The Last Photograph look like an unusual entry in his filmography.
