FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S Director is Excited About Making Sequels To Explore The World Further
The Five Nights at Freddy's movie has yet to be released, but if the long-awaited horror movie ends up being a success at the box office and with audiences, you can bet that Blumhouse is going to want to continue the franchise. They’ve been working on this adaptation for a very long time and the reason that producer Jason Blum stuck with it is because he saw the possibility of a hit horror franchise.
The game franchise itself consists of 13 video games and over 30 novels, and there’s more of that coming! This is a huge popular property, so it makes sense that Blumhouse would want to expand that into a film franchise.
During a recent interview with /Film, director Emma Tammi was asked if she'd be willing to visit some of the other Five Nights at Freddy’s settings, like "Circus Baby's Pizza World," or the "Mega Pizzaplex," home to the Glamrock models of the animatronics. She explained that she’s excited about exploring the universe further, saying:
"I am not closing the door to that at all. I would be so excited to pursue additional films in this world ... so, fingers crossed."
According to the article, the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie includes a lot of references and Easter eggs to look out for that lays the groundwork for future films. Also, there’s the fact that one of the film’s stars, Matthew Lillard, has already teased that Five Nights at Freddy's is going to have at least three movies.
Blum previously talked about the future of the franchise, saying:
"Well, I think the right video games make great source material for movies. I mean, you saw that even with [The Super Mario Bros. Movie]. It's a different genre, but it was an amazingly successful movie. I certainly hope that's the case [with Five Nights at Freddy's]. James [Wan] is actually a big gamer and we have a games division of our company that we've been working on. I'm definitely looking forward to finding more games that are popular and that we could turn into horror movies."
I’m looking forward to watching the upcoming movie, and I just hope that the creative team actually delivers a great, fun, and creepy movie. If it is… I’ll be looking forward to seeing more of them!
The film follows “a troubled security guard as he begins working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the night shift at Freddy’s won’t be so easy to make it through.” You see, there are ghost children who are posing as giant animatronics that are out to terrorize.
The movie stars Josh Hutcherson (Ultraman, The Hunger Games), Elizabeth Lail (You, Mack & Rita), Piper Rubio (Holly & Ivy, Unstable), Kat Conner Sterling (We Have a Ghost, 9-1-1), with Mary Stuart Masterson (Blindspot, Fried Green Tomatoes) and Matthew Lillard (Good Girls, Scream).
Five Nights at Freddy’s is directed by Emma Tammi (The Wind, Blood Moon) and she wrote the script with Scott Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback.
The movie will be released on October 27th.
