Jason Blum Hopes FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S Is the First of Many Horror Game Film Adaptations for Blumhouse

After years of development, Blumhouse is finally going to release its film adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy’s. This project had a long road to production, but it looks like director Emma Tammi (The Wind, Blood Moon) has made a creepy fun movie that fans of the game will enjoy!

Producer Jason Blum recently talked about the game, and he is "looking forward to finding more" horror video games to adapt into movies. He’s hoping that Five Nights at Freddy’s will be the first of many horror game film adaptations.

During a recent interview with Discussing Film Blum was asked whether the positive reaction to Five Nights at Freddy's online promotion has opened the door for more adaptations, and he replied:

"Well, I think the right video games make great source material for movies. I mean, you saw that even with [The Super Mario Bros. Movie]. It's a different genre, but it was an amazingly successful movie. I certainly hope that's the case [with Five Nights at Freddy's]. James [Wan] is actually a big gamer and we have a games division of our company that we've been working on. I'm definitely looking forward to finding more games that are popular and that we could turn into horror movies."

Blum was also asked about Blumhouse's merger with Wan's Atomic Monster, and in regard to that he offered the following update:

"Our agreement is almost done. It's almost official, so we're both excited about that. It's not new for us, you know? We collaborated on M3GAN, and we've collaborated on all these Insidious movies. The results of our collaborations, I should say, have been very positive. So for the fans, I think the good news is, instead of one movie every couple of years, it'll be [new movies] every year. Some movies will be more Atomic Monster, some movies will be more Blumhouse. But both of the company's DNA will be in all of our movies. I think that will, ultimately, make for better movies for the fans and more of them."

Blumhouse and Atomic Monster are sure to make a lot of wonderfully terrifying films together. It was previously announced that Wan and Blum are teaming up to develop a Dead by Daylight film, which will take inspiration from Behavior Interactive's multiplayer survival horror.

In Dead by Daylight, one player takes on the role of a savage Killer, while the other four players try to escape and keep from getting caught, tortured, and killed. Some of the demented killers include The Nurse, The Wraith, The Hag, and more. There are even classic movie villains and characters licensed from films that have been added to the game such as Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, and Pinhead.

I’m sure that they’ve already got more game adaptations lined up that they have yet to announce.
