Florence Pugh Jumps off the Second Tallest Skyscraper in Cool THUNDERBOLTS* Featurette
Florence Pugh isn’t messing around when performing some of her stunts In Marvel’s upcoming film Thunderbolts*, she quite literally takes the plunge off Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur, the second tallest building in the world.
“I love heights!” Pugh exclaims in a newly released behind the scenes featurette, just moments before we see her free-falling from a jaw-dropping height.
The video is enough to induce vertigo for those of you who are afraid of hights, and instead of hiding behind digital tricks, Marvel lets the real-world danger do the talking.
Marvel Studios actually let one of its biggest stars in their franchise jump off one of the tallest skyscrapers on Earth, and the commitment to practical mayhem doesn’t stop there. In the same sequence, the filmmakers actually blew up an entire floor of a building for a Yelena Belova action scene.
Again, this is something Marvel could have done digitally. But they didn’t, and it great to see Marvel is willing to move away from digital CGI work in favor for the real thing.
This pivot toward grounded, practical filmmaking feels like Marvel trying to reconnect with its roots, which I love. It’s a welcome shift, especially after a string of recent films that fans felt were over-reliant on CGI.
In the film, “A world without Avengers doesn't mean there's not a group of superheroes. There is a group and they're called the Thunderbolts. A group of supervillains from the MCU are recruited to go on missions for the government.”
The film centers on the characters Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and John Walker (Wyatt Russell). Lewis Pullman plays “Bob” aka Sentry aka The Void.
Jake Schreier directed the action-packed adventure, with a screenplay from Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo.
