FOX Will Develop a BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Reboot When "Joss Whedon Decides it's Time"
I've liked that the Buffy The Vampire Slayer story has continued in comic book form over the years, but some fans have wanted to see the series return in live-action form. If something like this did happen, it seems like now would be the time.
Fox Chairman and CEO Gary Newman recently talked about the possibility of bringing Buffy back saying Buffy The Vampire Slayer "is probably the most ripe show we have for bringing back." He goes on to say that bringing the series back is a conversation that they are having a lot at the network, saying:
“It’s something we talk about frequently. Joss Whedon is one of the greatest creators we’ve ever worked for. When Joss decides it’s time, we’ll do it.”
Is Joss Whedon actually involved with these talks that are happening!? I have no idea, but a couple weeks ago it was announced that he would be returning to the comic series to co-write Season 12. Could this comic be a way for him to get back into the Buffy groove? Maybe it will help inspire him to want to revive the series with Fox.
Reviving and rebooting series isn't a new thing for Fox as they have several projects in development consisting of The X-Files, 24, The Greatest American Hero, and Prison Break. Then there's the CW who are developing reboots of Roswell and Charmed. Newman goes on to say:
"Reboots aren’t actually a focus for us. Most of the time it starts with a creator coming in. Admittedly, we chased The X-Files for a while. But when we first brought it back it was Chris and David and Gillian. The 24 franchise… we’ll always want it."
Buffy The Vampire Slayer is one of my all-time favorite series. A part of me would love to see it return, but another part of me thinks that maybe it would be better if it didn't happen. It would be weird to see it happen if the original cast didn't return, but I don't even see that happening. Newman went on to caution:
"If you do it cynically, if you don’t have a great creative reason to to it, I don’t think it’s going to work."

In the end, it's probably best if a Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot or revival didn't happen, but... if it does, I'd have to watch it in hopes that it would be good! Do you think Fox should bring Buffy back?
