Full Trailer For THE 'BURBS Remake Tries to Recreate a Horror-Comedy Classic
Peacock has officially rolled out the full trailer for their upcoming remake series The ’Burbs, a reimagining of the 1989 horror-comedy classic that starred Tom Hanks and Bruce Dern.
This series is another case where you can’t help but ask why this was the title brought back. The original movie is a hilarious beloved comedy favorite, and this new take already feels like it’s setting itself up for an uphill battle.
Set in present-day suburbia, the new The ’Burbs follows a young couple who return to the husband’s childhood home, hoping for a quiet reset. That plan falls apart quickly once unsettling new neighbors move in next door.
As paranoia creeps in, old secrets buried in the cul-de-sac start clawing their way back to the surface, along with the possibility that something genuinely dangerous is lurking behind those perfectly trimmed hedges. The trailer leans into mystery and awkward humor, but it struggles to land many real laughs.
The cast is easily the strongest selling point here. Keke Palmer and Jack Whitehall lead the series, supported by Julia Duffy, Paula Pell, Mark Proksch, and Kapil Talwalkar.
The guest lineup is stacked with familiar faces too, including Haley Joel Osment, RJ Cyler, Justin Kirk, and Kyrie McAlpine, among others.
Unfortunatley, the trailer makes the show feel surprisingly flat. For a concept built on escalating absurdity, the comedy beats come off muted. I really wish this looked funnier because it doesn’t feel like it’s firing on all cylinders yet.
That’s a tough comparison to escape because the original film is so damn funny. It’s still one of my all-time favorite horror comedies, a movie that perfectly balances suburban paranoia with ridiculous escalation. This series doesn’t look like it’s playing anywhere near the same league. The vibe is softer, safer, and far less unhinged than what made the movie such a cult classic.
The series is inspired by the 1989 film and was created and written by Celeste Hughey, who previously worked on Dead to Me and Palm Royale. The executive producer list includes Hughey, Palmer, Seth MacFarlane, and Brian Grazer. I hate that it looks like they dropped the ball with this.
The ’Burbs is set to debut on Peacock starting February 8th, 2026. Maybe it will be better than it look, but based on this trailer, it’s hard not to feel like this remake is missing the sharp bite and manic energy that made the original such a classic.
