Full Trailer for THE WALKING DEAD: DEAD CITY Sees Maggie and Negan on a Journey in Manhattan

AMC has released a full trailer for The Walking Dead: Dead City, which sees Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) reuniting and embarking on a dangerous journey in a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, which is overrun with walkers. Why are they going to New York City? They are looking for Maggie's kidnapped son, Hershel.

As you might imagine, this mission they are on is not going to be easy. Negan is a wanted man being hunted down by the New Babylon Marshal Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles). Charles talked about the new location of New Babylon saying it’s "one of these states that has come together to try to put the world back together. My main task, my main goal and objective, is to bring justice to our land, to our community, to protect it. And one of the biggest challenges is getting this guy named Negan."

The character, Armstrong, is described as a devoted family man who is ruthless and unyielding in the pursuit of what he believes is justice, but "complications come about" as he is hunting Negan.

Series creator and showrunner Eli Jorné went on to talk about the relationship of Negan and Maggie in the series:

“It’s interesting because we see a very unprocessed level of trauma that we know happened between Maggie and Negan. In Dead City, we really get a chance to [ask], ‘What is this? What does it take to move through it?’ And more than anything, it’s a chance for us to be forced together on this mission. The tension and unmovable things are still very present. We’ve seen them intersect so often, but in this show, it’s really this tunnel that they’re trapped in to face things they may have run away from, more so what Maggie has run away from and what Negan[‘s presence] brings up for her. It’s like an exercise in intimacy with the worst person.”

Jorné further explained the complexity of their relationship this time around:

“It’s the next chapter in the story of Maggie and Negan, and so in that sense, it’s a lot of grief, trauma, and loss on both sides and how do you navigate that? How does Maggie look in Negan’s face every day and remember what he did to the love of her life? That’s still a huge part of the show. For anybody who’s watched the walking dead all these years and connected to those characters, we’re continuing the story, growing it, evolving it, and deepening it in a whole new landscape.”

Knowing the history of these two characters, it’s going to be interesting to see them working together with such high stakes.

The Walking Dead: Dead City will premiere on Sunday June 18 at 10pm ET. It will air on AMC and AMC+. Subsequent episodes will move to the 9pm ET timeslot. Check out the trailer below! Do you think these Walking Dead spinoffs will be as successful as the original flagship series?
