Funny Teaser Trailer for THE HAWK Sets Up Will Ferrell’s Ridiculous Golf Comeback Comedy Series

Netflix has finally released the first real teaser trailer for The Hawk, the upcoming golf comedy series starring Will Ferrell, and it looks exactly like the kind of chaotic sports nonsense you’d expect him to dive headfirst into.

The 10-episode series puts Ferrell in the plaid pants of washed-up golf legend Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, a former superstar who still thinks he’s one perfect swing away from reclaiming glory.

The story will be a collision between prestige sports drama and an overextended SNL sketch, which honestly might be the sweet spot for Ferrell. The teaser leans hard into the absurdity of treating Hawkins like one of the most legendary golfers in American history.

Ferrell plays Lonnie Hawkins, who was supposedly the number one golfer in the world back in 2004. Now he’s older, falling apart physically, and completely unwilling to accept that his best years are behind him.

While his family and everyone around him seem ready for him to walk away from the sport, Lonnie keeps pushing forward in pursuit of one final major championship to complete golf’s Grand Slam.

The official synopsis reads: “Lonnie Hawkins (Ferrell), 2004's number one golfer, struggles on the back nine of his career to recapture his magic. His body says retire, but his heart says he's not done yet.

“His ex-wife & his son Lance, golf's new golden boy, know he's through. But with one more major to win to complete golf's Grand Slam, Lonnie refuses to believe he's anything other than one stroke away from the greatest comeback in golf history.”

The teaser definitely gives off some fun energy and Ferrell looks fully committed to the bit, complete with oversized confidence, emotional speeches, awkward golf swagger, and the kind of delusion that somehow makes his characters lovable.

The cast around him is packed with comedy talent including Molly Shannon, Jimmy Tatro, Fortune Feimster, Luke Wilson, Chris Parnell, Katelyn Tarver, and David Hornsby.

The series was created and written by Will Ferrell and Chris Henchy, who previously worked together on projects like The Other Guys and The Campaign.

Netflix is clearly hoping The Hawk becomes one of its big comedy releases of the summer. Whether it turns into a great sports comedy or a glorified sketch stretched across 10 episodes remains to be seen, but the teaser at least makes it look like Ferrell is having a blast playing this washed-up golf maniac.

The Hawk premieres on Netflix on July 16, 2026.
