FURIOSA Features an Epic 15-Minute Sequence That Took 78 Days to Shoot and 200 Stunt People

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga producer Doug Mitchell is teasing an insanely epic 15-minute sequence in the George Miller-directed film, and it is very important for understanding Anya Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa character. I’ve also included some new photos form the film!

Mitchell tells Total Film that the 15-minute sequence took “78 days to shoot" and that it also had 200 stunt people working on that scene daily! That’s a freakin’ huge undertaking, but they managed to pull it off, and I can’t wait to watch it on the big screen!

Taylor-Joy went on to offer some insight in the sequence and explained why it’s so important for the film and her character, saying: "George and I would have these big conversations about why this particular set-piece was so long.”

She added: "It’s because you see an accumulation of skills over the course of a battle, and that’s very important for understanding how resourceful Furiosa is, but also her grit.”

The actress continued: “It’s the longest sequence any of us have ever shot. On the day we finished, everybody got a 'Stairway To Nowhere' wine!’”

Also, one other fun little detail was revealed, Taylor-Joy still doesn’t have a driver’s license, despite learning to do a J-turn on her first day of stunt school for the movie.

In the film, "As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus.

“Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home."

Miller previously talked about the movie and revealed that the story takes place over the course of 15 years and that it leads directly into the events of Mad Max: Fury Road.

Miller shared: “The story is the saga of Furiosa, and how she gets taken from home, and spends the rest of her life trying to get back. [In] Fury Road, the story unfolds over three days and two nights. This film follows the story that runs directly into Fury Road, for 15 years.”

He went on to say that, “It’s a different animal. It’s got many different locations. It’s an odyssey. No question.” As for a possible appearance from Max Rockatansky himself, Miller said: “I won’t give away too much about that. All I’ll say is, Max is lurking there in the background.”

The cast also includes Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Angus Sampson, Nathan Jones, Daniel Webber, Lachy Hulme, and Quaden Bayles.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is scheduled to hit theaters on May 24, 2024.
