FX Locks in Three More Seasons of WELCOME TO WREXHAM as Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds Keep the Story Going
If you’ve been following the incredible ride of Wrexham AFC, there’s a lot more story on the way. FX has officially renewed Welcome to Wrexham for three additional seasons, extending the life of the hit docuseries well into 2029.
That means fans can look forward to the journey continuing through Season 8, with plenty more drama, victories, and emotional moments ahead.
The series, led by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, has grown into something much bigger than a sports documentary. It’s become a global story about a town, a team, and a wild ambition to climb the ranks of English football.
Season 5 is right around the corner, premiering Thursday, May 14, kicking off with two episodes before settling into weekly releases on FXX and Hulu at 9 p.m. ET.
FX clearly knows what it has on its hands. Nick Grad, President of FX Entertainment, reflected on just how far the series has come, saying:
“When we launched Welcome to Wrexham, we never imagined the impact it would have on the club and the town while creating one of TV’s most successful and beloved docuseries. This three-season renewal is a testament to the vision of Rob and Ryan and the enduring connection they’ve built with fans around the world.”
That connection has been the heart of the show. What started as a surprising celebrity ownership story has evolved into a deeply personal and community-driven narrative that allows viewers to get invested in the lives tied to the club and the city itself.
Mac and Reynolds also addressed the renewal, and you can feel just how much this project means to them:
“A three-season order for a TV series is nearly unheard of and is only possible through the ground-breaking work of our Emmy-winning documentary team and the relentless rise of Wrexham AFC and all those working so hard to make sports history.
“We are forever grateful to our equally fearless and tireless partners at FX for being with us every step of the way. We are so happy we get to keep telling the Wrexham story for years to come.”
Season 5 is set to push things even further, following Wrexham AFC as they chase promotion to the Premier League after already achieving three consecutive promotions, something that’s never happened in English Football League history.
That raises the stakes in a big way, and if the past seasons are any indication, the cameras will capture every tense, emotional step along the way. Production is handled by More Better Productions, Maximum Effort, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Boardwalk Pictures.
At this point, Welcome to Wrexham isn’t just a docuseries about football. It’s a long-form story about belief, risk, and what happens when a community gets swept up in something bigger than itself. And now, we get to watch that story unfold for years to come.
