Gal Gadot Is Still on Board to Play Wonder Woman, But James Gunn Isn't Sure What to Do With Her Yet
When it was announced that DC Studios was producing a Game of Thrones-style Wonder Woman series about Themyscira titled Paradise Island, I wasn’t sure what that meant for Gal Gadot’s version of the superhero. The story will tell the origin of that island long before the birth of Diana, so she definitely wasn’t going to be a part of that.
Well, James Gunn has confirmed that Gal Gadot is still on board to play Wonder Woman, but he admits that he’s not sure what to do with her yet. When Gunn was asked if any former stars have been in talks for the franchise's future, this was his reply:
"Some. We don't know. We've talked to Gal. She's up for doing stuff. We're not sure what we're going to do with that. All I can tell you really right now really is just Henry [Cavill] and Ben [Affleck] are not a part of this universe."
We knew that Affleck and Cavill were out as Batman and Superman, but it’s cool that Gadot may be back as Wonder Woman at some point in the future. We just don’t know when that will be or how that will come about.
Director Patty Jenkins did pitch a third Wonder Woman film to the DC Studios team, but they passed on it because it didn’t fit in with the plans that Gunn and Peter Safran were developing. But, they’ll eventually get around to doing something with Gadot’s Wonder Woman character, it’s something they they are going to have to take some time figuring out.
