George Clooney Says OCEAN'S 14 Won't Be a Nostalgia Grab- He Has an Angle He's Excited to Explore
Two time Academy Award winner George Clooney says he’s committed at this point in his career to making smaller, more personal projects, like his latest film, Jay Kelly, or his next movie In Love, a low-budget drama in which he will appear opposite Annette Bening as a man with Alzheimer’s.
He has a newfound love of acting at this point in his career, but says he is only willing to leave his kids for work that really means something to him, which doesn’t include many big-budget action movies.
But it does include returning to one big budget franchise, with his upcoming sequel Ocean’s 14. The actor said this won’t just be a reunion for the sake of getting the gang back together for a big payday though. Clooney said in an interview with Variety that he wants to explore what it’s like to pull off a heist when you’re no longer young and spry.
He was inspired by the movie Going in Style, a ’70s comedy about a group of aging criminals, and he’s enlisted Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and Don Cheadle to return as an older, but wiser gang. They are scouting locations and hope to start shooting next October.
“There was something about the idea that we’re too old to do what we used to do, but we’re still smart enough to know how to get away with something, that just appeals to me,” Clooney says. “They’ve lost a step, and they need to find a way to work around their limitations.”
Clooney says he’s not “trying to hold on to being a romantic leading man” at his age, though his charm is still undeniable. I look forward to seeing how this new film plays out with the lot of characters who are in a later phase of life.
