George Miller Discusses Furiosa's Story After the Events of MAD MAX: FURY ROAD

We are about to watch the origin story of Furiosa unfold on the big screen in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which looks like an extremely awesome movie! This movie is going to deliver something special and completely badass!

This movie will lead up to the events in Mad Max: Fury Road, and now director George Miller says he would like to see what happens to the Wasteland warrior after the events of Fury Road.

During a recent interview with GamesRadar, Miller said: “I’ve often speculated when we see Furiosa go up to the Citadel on that platform at the very end [of Fury Road] and nod goodbye to Max who wanders to the Wasteland.”

The filmmaker added: “I often think: ‘What does she do, sitting up at the top of the dominant hierarchy? Does she fall into the trap that most revolutionaries do? You know, yesterday’s hero becomes tomorrow’s tyrant, which is classic in storytelling.'”

I’d certainly love to see her story continue, who knows, maybe Miller will eventually get around to telling that story. Miller has got a ton of stories to tell in the Mad Max universe, though! I imagine he won’t get to tell them all, but the ones that he’s passionate about, I hope he does get to make.

Miller has revealed that he’s in early development on a new Mad Max prequel story based on the character’s history.

The director explained: "In doing what we did in the preparation of Mad Max: Fury Road, we also wrote what happened to Max in the year before we encounter him in [that film]."

He added: "And as we get towards the end of this movie, the chronology... Basically, we had to see that Mad Max was lurking around somewhere because we do know what happened.”

The director went on to say: “The writers know what happened to Mad Max in that year before, and we have a whole story of that, which I would like to do sometime if I get the chance."

In Furiosa, "As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus.

“Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home."

Miller previously talked about Furisoa and revealed that the story takes place over the course of 15 years and that it leads directly into the events of Mad Max: Fury Road.

Miller shared: “The story is the saga of Furiosa, and how she gets taken from home, and spends the rest of her life trying to get back. [In] Fury Road, the story unfolds over three days and two nights. This film follows the story that runs directly into Fury Road, for 15 years.”

The cast also includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Angus Sampson, Nathan Jones, Daniel Webber, Lachy Hulme, and Quaden Bayles.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is scheduled to hit theaters on May 24, 2024.
