George Miller Reveals Who Plays Max Rockatansky in FURIOSA
George Miller has already revealed that Max Rockatansky is going to appear in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will only make a brief cameo along with his iconic car, The Interceptor.
The filmmaker has now shared who will be playing Max in the movie. It will be Jacob Tomuri, who was Tom Hardy’s double in Fury Road.
Miller explained: "It was Jacob Tomuri, who was Tom Hardy's double [in Fury Road]. He also did some other stunts. He's a New Zealand stuntman, and he was doing some other stunts on the film, and I thought, 'Who better?'"
For such a small role, it makes sense to bring in Hardy’s double to step into the role, which he has already done before.
However, if Miller ends up making his other Mad Max movie one day, it’ll be interesting to see who he brings on for that because I’m not sure Hardy is in the cards for another Mad Max movie.
The director previously explained why Max appears in Furiosa, saying: “The writers know what happened to Mad Max in that year before, and we have a whole story of that, which I would like to do sometime if I get the chance."
Miller explained: "In doing what we did in the preparation of Mad Max: Fury Road, we also wrote what happened to Max in the year before we encounter him in [that film]."
He added: "And as we get towards the end of this movie, the chronology... Basically, we had to see that Mad Max was lurking around somewhere because we do know what happened.”
In the film, "As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus.
“Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home."
Miller previously talked about Furisoa and revealed that the story takes place over the course of 15 years and that it leads directly into the events of Mad Max: Fury Road.

Miller shared: “The story is the saga of Furiosa, and how she gets taken from home, and spends the rest of her life trying to get back. [In] Fury Road, the story unfolds over three days and two nights. This film follows the story that runs directly into Fury Road, for 15 years.”
He went on to say that, “It’s a different animal. It’s got many different locations. It’s an odyssey. No question.” As for a possible appearance from Max Rockatansky himself, Miller said: “I won’t give away too much about that. All I’ll say is, Max is lurking there in the background.”
The cast also includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Angus Sampson, Nathan Jones, Daniel Webber, Lachy Hulme, and Quaden Bayles.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is scheduled to hit theaters on May 24, 2024.
