George Miller's New MAD MAX Film Will Reportedly Focus on Young Furiosa and AQUAMAN's Yahya Abdul-Mateen II May Star
We know that director George Miller is starting to prepare his next Mad Max film for production, and rumor has it that it will start shooting in Australia this fall. The filmmaker is currently directing a movie titled Three Thousand Years of Longing.
We have some new details regarding the new Mad Max film to share with you today thanks to Collider’s SneiderCut podcast. According to the report, the movie is being developed as a Fury Road prequel, and it will focus on a younger version Furiosa before she became one of Imortan Joe's Imperators.
If this is the case, it’s doubtful that Charlize Theron will come back to reprise her role. It’s believed that a younger actress will be cast to take on the role. The report also says that Watchmen and Aquaman actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is being eyed for the male lead.
This has not been confirmed by anyone with the film project so right now we will treat this news as a rumor. One thing we do know for sure is that Miller has been wanting to play with the character Furiosa further. When previously talking about Furiosa, he hinted that he backstory is one he would like to explore:
"Yeah, she’s a pretty compelling character so it would be great to tell her story. Her backstory is really interesting. We only allude to it in this movie because this movie is on the run; people don’t have much time for recreational talk. But you pick up, you have a sense of her having gone through stuff. That’s what the film is trying to do. You’re trying to put a lot of iceberg under the tip, I like saying. One of the things that’s really gratifying, people are reading the film more than just the surface — the events of the movie, and just picking up a lot of stuff underneath it, which is very deliberate......So in many ways, the audience is picking up a lot about Furiosa — or enough to intrigue. And she’s got an interesting story."
