George R.R. Martin Confirms ELDEN RING Movie Is Being Discussed

Elden Ring is considered by many to be one of the greatest video games of all time. Its vast open world, intricate gameplay systems, and deeply layered lore, crafted in collaboration with A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin, have captivated millions of people.

Due to the game’s popularity, it’s not hard to imagine that one day someone will attempt to adapt it into a film. And now, the possibility of an Elden Ring movie is being teased by Martin.

During IGN Fan Fest 2025, Martin was asked about the possibility of a film, and he confirmed that it’s being discussed.

“Well, I can’t say too much about it, but there is some talk about making a movie out of Elden Ring.”

For fans hoping to see the Lands Between on the big screen one day, this is the best indication yet that Hollywood might be ready to take on FromSoftware’s epic fantasy universe.

However, Martin also pointed out a significant hurdle, which is his never-ending battle with The Winds of Winter.

“We’ll see if that [the Elden Ring movie] comes to pass and what the extent of my involvement was, I don’t know…I’m a few years behind with my latest book so that also limits the amount of things that I can do.”

When previously addressing a possible Elden Ring movie, he said: "Oh, and about those rumors you may have heard about a feature film or television series based on ELDEN RING… I have nothing to say. Not a word, nope, not a thing, I know nothing, you never heard a peep from me, mum mum mum. What rumor?" Right…”

As you can tell, Martin lays it on pretty thick there.

For anyone keeping track, The Winds of Winter has been in the works since 2010, with countless delays along the way. Given that Martin helped shape Elden Ring’s world while still working on his novel, it’s possible he could still contribute in some way.

It’s probably only a matter of time before we see someone attempt to make an Elden Ring movie. Good luck to whoever attempts to take it on! That’s going to a massive undertaking and they have to do it right, which isn’t easy in the Hollywood studio system.
