GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE Star Finn Wolfhard Talks About the Film, Saying It's a "Faithful Approach" to the Franchise
It’s been a couple of months since we’ve had anything new to share with you for director Jason Rietman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife. This is a movie that a lot of fans have been excited about seeing. It was supposed to be released this July, but we have no idea right now if that date is going to stay firm. As you know, lots of movie release dates are being put on pause.
We’ve only seen one full trailer for the film released so far, and it teased an intriguing story, one that I can’t wait to see play out! While we wait for any new information on the film, Finn Wolfhard, who stars in it, recently talked about the film. He discussed how influential the original films were to him and said that the next chapter in the story is “really faithful” to the original movies and “really funny.”
While Speaking with NME, Wolfhard recalled:
“When I was really young, my parents were really big fans of the original Ghostbusters movies, so I grew up watching them, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis – all of those were big, big people in our house. So getting to be a part of that legacy now is very flattering.”
So what can fans expect from Ghostbusters: Afterlife? The young actor says that “Older Ghostbusters fans will find it’s a really, really faithful approach to the series.” He then went on to talk about younger audiences saying, “Young people, if not everyone, will find that, first and foremost, Ghostbusters is about family and the relationships that these people have made.”
While the first two Ghostbusters film weren’t really about family, this next one clearly is. Wolfhard also had this to say about the film, “It’s also really funny, so I’m really excited for people to see it.”
This upcoming chapter in the original Ghostbusters franchise centers on “a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.”
It also looks like the story will have something to do with Ivo Shandor and the Cult of Gozer, who were discussed in the original film. You can read more about that here.
The movie also stars Carrie Coon, McKenna Grace, and Paul Rudd. The original cast of the film are also expected to return. I imagine that they will show up for the last 30 minutes of the movie
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is supposed to arrive in theaters on July 10, 2020.
