Gillian Anderson Says She's Done With THE X-FILES After Season 11

This weekend, we got our first trailer for The X-Files Season 11 and it did a great job of getting me excited for what is to come. It not only got me excited for Season 11, but it also got me excited for the continuation of the series beyond Season 11!

Unfortunately, if the series does press forward, Gillian Anderson won't be coming along for the ride as Agent Scully. During a press event for the series at NYCC, Anderson was asked if she would come back for another season and she revealed:

"No, no, I think this will be it for me."

Damn. That's kind of a bummer to hear. She explains that the reason she came back for Season 11 is because she felt like the story wasn't finished after Season 10. When asked why she returned, she explained:

“Because it felt like it wasn’t over. It didn’t feel like we necessarily deliver everything the fans were expecting of us last time, and so it was that.”

I wonder what this means for Scully. There was an image released of her laying in a hospital bed with her eyes closed. Will something happen to her!? Will bring an end to the series? Will the series continue without her!? I don't know!

It would be really weird watching The X-Files continue without Scully, but we'll just have to wait and see what series creator Chris Carter plans on doing after Season 11 comes to a close. When asked if she will miss playing the character, Anderson said:

“I don’t know. You may need to talk to me in a few years about that once I finally shut the door. You know, there’s always been this ‘maybe one more’ thing hanging over, but when the door is finally shut, call me up and ask me that question again.”

I'm really curious to see what what the fate of Scully will be in Season 11. What do you think will happen?

The X-Files Season 11 premieres in January 2018 on Fox.
